Alan Jackson celebrated his 25th anniversary as a member of the Grand Ole Opry on June 7, and the Opry released a video of Jackson performing his classic hit “Remember When” to remember the event.
Clad in his simple attire and iconic wide-brimmed cowboy hat, Jackson took the hallowed Opry stage to perfectly deliver the reminiscent love song back in October of 2015.
“Remember when we said when we turned gray / When the children grow up and move away / We won’t be sad, we’ll be glad / For all the life we’ve had / And we’ll remember when,” Jackson sang passionately.
Jackson has always revered the Grand Ole Opry and all that it has stood for in country music. He recalls that when coming to Nashville to pursue music, his dreams went beyond being a honky tonk hit or even selling out arenas, to being a member of the musical establishment.
“The ultimate dream when you’re in country music is to be asked to join the Grand Ole Opry,” he says. “You think about people like Hank Williams, and Mr. Acuff, and George Jones, who stood on that spot of wood. That’s what makes you so nervous — to think about the historical part of the Opry and how it’s played such a part in country music.”
The 57-year-old country star is currently on tour as a part of his Keepin’ It Country Tour with opener Lauren Alaina in support of his 2015 record, Angels and Alcohol. The trek has a few more dates through the summer, including some festival stops, before it officially wraps in November.
